An air carrier operating flights from the airport of the Syunik Province cannot have any security guarantees. Vahe Hakobyan, a member of the opposition "Armenia" Faction in the National Assembly of Armenia and former governor of Syunik, told about this to Armenian News-NEWS.am—and referring to the cancellation of Yerevan-Kapan-Yerevan flights due to the air carrier's withdrawal of the respective application.

"The air carrier had a clear-headed mindset that it withdrew its application. Otherwise, how was it imagining the flights? Azerbaijani [border] guards are placed at a distance of 110 meters, and the plane is conducting a flight in those conditions. They [i.e., the Azerbaijanis] can easily hit the plane. And they do not have to have an instruction for that; any drunken Azerbaijani can open fire. Who will answer [for that]? Of course, the air carrier," Hakobyan said.

According to him, the Armenian state should be the guarantor of the security of this flight.

"We may have forgotten, but we have a Civil Aviation Committee. This is already their and the government’s problem. But the government cannot even give its own guarantees," Hakobyan stressed.

And when asked by what means the Armenian state should ensure uninterrupted flights from the Syunik airport, Vahe Hakobyan responded: "The answer to any such question is one: the leaving of [PM] Nikol Pashinyan and his little group [from power]."
