Demonstrators on Thursday blocked all major roads in Beirut and transport arteries throughout Lebanon, RIA Novosti reported.

On Thursday, at the call of the land transport union, minibus and taxi drivers closed roads against continued increases in fuel and food prices and amid a new fall in the national currency against the dollar.

In the Lebanese capital, the central square, Hamra street, Verdan district and the highway leading to the airport in the Kuwait embassy area have been blocked.

From 5 am, protesters also blocked the main road linking the capital with the south of the country in the Halde region, and the highway leading from Beirut to the north in the Daur region.

It is important that the Lebanese support the strike, according to Qubaisi, as living conditions are getting worse for everyone.

If they want to change something, let them jail the bankers and the head of the central bank. Let them force them to take action, but so far the living conditions are only getting worse, added Kubeisi.

Demonstrator Abu Ali Mohsen said that the union and citizens of the country as a whole should demand that the government and parliament find solutions.

“People should not suffer and starve while politicians are fighting for power,” he said.

According to the participants, the widespread protest will continue until five in the evening. After the head of the union will announce the next steps.

In Beirut, the action is currently taking place peacefully. There are no crowds of people and law enforcement officers. The army and police do not interfere with the actions of the demonstrators.
