YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes: In Armenia, which is in a state of de facto war, the Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces, Artak Davtyan, continues to hold office in the case when he has been charged.

Let us remind that Davtyan has been charged under Section 3 of Article 375 of the RA Criminal Code: Abuse of power or official position by a chief (commander) or official, abuse of power or overstepping of official powers, as well as inaction of the authorities if those actions were committed based on interest, other personal interest or group interests, and if they have caused severe material consequences. This section of the article envisages 4-8 years of imprisonment—with or without confiscation of property.

In this regard, Zhoghovurd daily petitioned to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Armenia to find out whether the supervising prosecutor has petitioned to the government so that the powers of the chief of the General Staff are suspended, in response to which they gave a negative response from the department.

It turns out that despite the fact that the chief of the General Staff has been charged with abusing his official position, Davtyan continues to hold office.
