The traditional carnival in the Brazilian cities of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo was postponed due to the coronavirus. Initially, it was supposed to be held in February, but now the event has been postponed to April, LentaRu reports with reference to CNA.
This decision was made due to the spread of the omicron strain COVID-19. As the head of the Department of Health of Rio de Janeiro, Daniel Soranz, explained, the sanitary situation in the city does not allow holding a mass event on the planned date.
According to the publication, currently in Brazil there is an increase in the incidence of coronavirus. Over the past seven days, an average of 120,000 new cases have been recorded daily in the country.
