At the beginning of Monday’s regular sitting of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, NA speaker Alen Simonyan made a statement on the letter of resignation by President Armen Sarkissian.
Simonyan noted as follows, in particular: "The President of the Republic has submitted a letter of resignation in accordance with Article 142 of the Constitution and Section 1 of Article 147 of the Rules of Procedure Constitutional Law of the National Assembly. According to Section 2 of Article 147 of the Rules of Procedure Constitutional Law of the NA, if the relevant official withdraws—with a written petition—his/her letter of resignation within a week after the announcement of the resignation, the NA President makes a statement about it.
If he/she does not withdraw his/her letter of resignation, a record on the termination of his/her powers is drawn up, which is signed and publicized by the NA President. The resignation is considered accepted from the moment of publicizing of the record."
As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, Armen Sarkissian issued a statement Sunday evening, announcing that he has decided to resign from the post of President of Armenia.
