The winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will be held from 24 to 28 January in a mixed format.
The session will discuss discussions on combating the growth of hatred towards LGBT people in Europe, the violation of their rights in the Transcaucasus, business and values in football management (a speech by FIFA President Gianni Infantino is scheduled), the poisoning of Alexei Navalny, and the role of the media in times of crisis, the PAC official website reported.
On January 27, PACE will hold a special event dedicated to the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust, which will be attended by French Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Jean-Michel Blanquer. In addition, the participation of Holocaust survivors will be ensured (through a video message and speeches behind a video link).
The event will be followed by a discussion of the Observatory's work on teaching history in Europe.
At the opening of the session, PACE must elect a new chairman. The Parliamentary Assembly will exchange views with the Italian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers. The Assembly will be addressed by the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, Maria Pejcinovic Buric.
The agenda also discusses the following issues: The EU Pact on Migration and Asylum from a Human Rights Perspective; children's rights to democratic participation and response to climate change; enforced disappearances on the territory of member states of the Council of Europe; functioning of democratic institutions in Armenia.
