The Burkina Faso army said it had toppled President Roche Kabore, suspended the constitution, dissolved the government and the national assembly, and closed the borders.

The announcement, signed by Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba and read by another officer on state television, stated that the seizure had been carried out without violence and that the detainees were in a safe place.

Reuters, citing four security and political sources that Burkina Faso's President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré has resigned.

Kaboré has not been seen in public since a heavy firefight erupted in the military camps on Sunday.
