Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan urged not to take out of context the statement of Vahagn Aleksanyan, an MP from the ruling Civil Contract party.

"He said something completely different," Pashinyan said, when asked whether Aleksanyan's statement, which called journalists "verbal prostitutes," was acceptable to him.

“He referred to the propaganda of violence, to the propaganda of lawlessness. If I were an active journalist, I would not attribute these statements to myself if I honestly serve my profession.

I think it's very important that the media be transparent in the end. The media today require transparency from officials, but the media should not be transparent?

They must act and will act transparently. That is why we adopted a law on transparency and accountability of the media... We are taking the same measures for parties and creating mechanisms to identify the real owners of the media, so that the public can identify possible political interests in the media,” Pashinyan said.

He added that the government's program also provides for resolving the issue of regulating the rules of journalistic ethics. “It is necessary to create legislative mechanisms so that the journalistic community can do this, determine the rules of ethics and comply with them.

And deputy Aleksanyan gave a political assessment, which is very difficult to recognize as unfounded.”
