Sandro Botticelli's 'The Man of Sorrows' has been sold at Sotheby's in New York for $45.5 million, making it the second most expensive work by an Italian Renaissance artist ever sold at auction.

After a total of three bidders entered the race for the painting, the two finalists entered the race for the painting, bringing the price to $45.5 million.
