Colombian authorities detained a shipment of cocaine-filled coconuts, the Independent reported.

The cargo was bound for Italy and was on its way to the port of Genoa. The exotic nuts were packed in 504 canvas bags.

The shipment of drugs was discovered during an investigation conducted by the Special Unit to Combat Drug Trafficking of the Attorney General's Office of Colombia and the Anti-Narcotics Directorate of the National Police of the country.

"Upon inspection, it was determined that the juice of the tropical fruits had been replaced with liquid cocaine," the National Prosecutor's Office of Colombia reported.
