Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili has been infected with a strain of coronavirus Omicron, the Prime Minister's press service reported.

The statement highlighted that Prime Minister is fully vaccinated, “feels well and continues to work remotely.”

The period of isolation of those infected with coronavirus in Georgia is 8 days.

Garibashvili was tested positive for COVID-19 on 6 April, 2021, and two weeks later on 20 April it was declared that the prime minister had been recovered.  At that time, he had not been vaccinated against the coronavirus, although vaccination had already been launched in the country.

The Ministry of Health explained this by the fact that only people from a high risk group - employees of medical institutions and the elderly - were vaccinated at that time.
