At Thursday’s Cabinet meeting  of the government of Armenia, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reflected on plans toward the opening of regional communications.

In this connection, he recalled that Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk and Russian Railways General Director Oleg Belozerov arrived in Armenia Wednesday, and already met with Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.

"This visit is very important. We are very close to record the first practical results of the trilateral working group on the opening of communications in the region," Pashinyan added.

Noting that the previous day's visit was entirely aimed at the construction of the Yeraskh-Jugha-Meghri-Horadiz railway, Pashinyan said that the respective agreements had already been reached, and that an integral part of these agreements is that when this railway will operate in the territory of Armenia, it shall do so under Armenia’s laws, and when operating in the territory of Azerbaijan—under the latter’s laws.

According to the Armenian premier, the aforesaid Russian deputy PM’s visit to Armenia was aimed at activation, and discussions are already underway on the formulation of a technical task, planning, start of construction, and funding of this railway project.

"In case of continuing with this dynamic, we can express confidence that the implementation of this opportunity will become tangible in the near future," said Nikol Pashinyan. "[But] until the railway is built and the first train passes, we must always keep in mind that the situation is not ordinary. But the political will that we have expressed is taking on concrete manifestations."
