The Chinese representation in the EU opposes the expansion of NATO and considers the corresponding efforts supposedly undertaken to ensure global security to be useless. This is stated in a statement published on Tuesday on the agency's website.

NATO expansion will not help ensure security and stability in the world, it noted.

According to the document, such attempts by the alliance only contribute to the formation of political blocs and the emergence of confrontation in the military sphere.

We call on NATO to abandon the mindset and ideology of the Cold War, to show respect for the sovereignty, security and interests of other countries, for the differences in their civilizations, history and cultures, the statement said.

NATO is a product of the Cold War, it says. The Chinese side believes that regional security cannot be ensured by the forcible expansion of military alliances. According to the statement, the North Atlantic Alliance should make more efforts to strengthen interstate trust, truly protect regional peace and stability.

On Monday, at a press conference in Brussels, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the joint declaration of China and Russia following the meeting of the leaders of the two countries in Beijing should allegedly be considered an attempt to deny the right of sovereign countries to make independent choices" regarding defense alliances.
