The way the new law on Media was adopted is "disappointing", the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lee Litzenberger said, Turan News Agency reported.
He said that the opinions of all stakeholders and experts' suggestions to improve the document were not taken into account while working on the bill.
The US Embassy is in close contact with government officials, media and journalists.
“We have been open about our concerns. Much will depend on how this law is applied in practice. If the authorities use him to restrict freedom of the press, it will be very disappointing. If the authorities will use the law as they promise - to raise the level of the press and the professionalism of journalists, this is another matter,” the ambassador said.
