Negotiations on Iran's nuclear program, which are taking place in Vienna, should be put on hold due to external factors, said Josep Borrell, head of EU diplomacy. He tweeted about it, noting that the final text of the agreement is already ready.

He added that, as the coordinator of the negotiations, he will continue to maintain contact with the participants of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program and with the United States to overcome the current difficulties and conclude a deal.

Iran and the six international mediators (five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) concluded a JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear program in 2015. It provided for the restriction of Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of international and unilateral anti-Iranian sanctions.

With President Joe Biden, the United States expressed its willingness to reinstate the JCPOA. In 2021, seven rounds of negotiations with Iran on the restoration of the JCPOA were held in Vienna, the United States did not directly participate in them. The eighth round of negotiations is now underway in Vienna.
