YEREVAN. – Tuesday’s Yerevan court session on the criminal case against second President Robert Kocharyan and former deputy prime minister Armen Gevorgyan—who is now an MP of the opposition “Armenia” Faction in the National Assembly of Armenia—has been put off until 4pm. This decision was made by presiding Judge Anna Danibekyan—and in connection with Gevorgyan's absence from the courtroom.

Armen Gevorgyan had informed the court at the March 1 hearing that a PACE special session on Ukraine was to be held on March 14 and 15, and that he had to attend it remotely.

However, Judge Danibekyan had set the next court session for today, and she began this hearing by asking why Armen Gevorgyan's was absent.

His defense lawyer, Lusine Sahakyan, reminded the judge that the latter knew why her client was not in the courtroom.

Judge Danibekyan started checking the schedule of the aforementioned PACE session. Moreover, she commented on the time difference in favor of Strasbourg, France—the venue of this session.

Even the prosecution did not object to the rescheduling of this court hearing.

Despite all this, Judge Anna Danibekyan put off this court session until 4pm so that Gevorgyan come to court by then.

Along the lines of the abovementioned criminal case, Robert Kocharyan and Armen Gevorgyan are charged with taking bribes—and based on the respective testimony of businesswoman Silva Hambardzumyan.
