There is a decision by the board of the ruling Civil Contract Party that former Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan will head the party’s electoral list in the upcoming local elections in Yerevan, and he will be the mayoral candidate. The ruling party's public relations coordinator, MP Vahagn Aleksanyan, informed the RFE/RL Armenian Service about this.

"[Incumbent] mayor Hrachya Sargsyan said that there were discussions with Tigran Avinyan, but there is no final agreement. If that happens, will Avinyan be appointed deputy mayor of Yerevan and will he head the electoral list [of the ruling party]?" In response to this question, Aleksanyan said. "But it is very important that there be a separation, that now, yes, our mayor is Hrachya Sargsyan, and the Civil Contract Party supports him—with its whole team—in his work. And as for Mr. Avinyan, there is a decision that he shall soon become the deputy mayor of Yerevan, and we will all see that in the near future. Tigran Avinyan will already head our electoral list in the next elections."

Yerevan Council of Elders elections will be held next year.
