The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation intends to take the fingerprints of 3 to 5 million citizens of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) member countries, said Oleg Kadochnikov, deputy head of the Russian interior ministry's migration department, RIA Novosti reported.

The law on respective fingerprinting was adopted in Russia at the end of last year. According to it, the period during which the aforesaid foreigners have to hand in their fingerprints depends on their purpose of being in Russia.

"According to our estimates, the new requirements will enable to include 3 to 5 million citizens of the EEU for giving fingerprints and being photographed, which will significantly increase the monitoring of foreigners, the solving of crimes, and the effectiveness of preventive work in the territory of the country," said Kadochnikov.

To note, Armenia also is a member in the Eurasian Economic Union.
