Moscow proceeds from the fact that the basis for the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations is the trilateral agreements of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, commenting on the EU initiative.

She reminded that last weekend, the Russian President discussed with his counterparts from Armenia and Azerbaijan the whole range of issues related to the implementation of those agreements. This issue was also at the center of attention in the talks held in Moscow on 8 April between the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Armenia, as well as during the phone conversations between the Russian Minister and the Azeri Foreign Minister.

In particular, these contacts touched on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the unblocking of transport links and the conclusion of a peace treaty.

According to her, Russia will continue to provide all possible assistance to normalization of relations between Yerevan and Baku.

Zakharova noted that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has already given all assessments of the European Union's role in this process.
