Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou criticized the gesture that Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu made towards demonstrators from the Armenian community who protested his visit to Montevideo, Deutsche Welle reports

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, having met Armenian demonstrators in Uruguay, showed them the sign of the Gray Wolves nationalist organization, which is banned in a number of countries.

Speaking to the press, Lacalle Pou assured that the attitude of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu should be sharply criticized.

Progress in commercial matters does not mean that Montevideo agrees with "the domestic or foreign policy" of the other side, the President of Uruguay said.

Uruguayan Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo joined in the condemnation and called his Turkish counterpart's gesture "unacceptable" during the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

After the incident, Uruguayan Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo summoned Turkish Ambassador to the Foreign Ministry.
