Saudi Arabia and France have announced €66 million in additional economic aid to Lebanon, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The King Salman Center for Humanitarian Aid and Humanitarian Operations, affiliated with the government of Saudi Arabia, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Development Agency signed a memorandum of understanding, according to which Riyadh will provide the Lebanese government with € 36 million. The allocated funds will be used to purchase food and support the system health care, the agency said.

Paris, in turn, will allocate €30 million to Lebanon for the development of humanitarian projects, the French Embassy in Beirut said on its Twitter page.

Since 2019, Lebanon has been in a deep economic crisis, which is accompanied by a depreciation of the national currency, a shortage of food, fuel and medicine. At the same time, many countries are afraid to provide substantial assistance to Beirut, negatively assessing the domestic political situation that has developed in the country against the backdrop of the economic crisis.
