German authorities plan to suspend pandemic rules requiring proof of vaccination, a negative test result or a recent recovery from COVID-19 to enter the country over the summer, the AP reported.

Health Secretary Karl Lauterbach said the rules will be suspended from 1 June until the end of August.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany has been steadily declining in recent weeks, and most restrictions have been lifted.

Last week, however, the government announced plans to spend another €830 million purchasing vaccines to help the country deal with a number of possible cases in the fall.
