Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said after a meeting with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Teodora Genchovska that Bulgaria will soon start receiving Azerbaijani gas through the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector (IGB), Azerbaijani media reported.

"Azerbaijan will supply gas to Bulgaria for 25 years, as previously agreed between the two countries. Today Bulgaria is one of the three recipients of Azerbaijani gas in Europe. We are sure that in the near future the construction of the interconnector with Greece will be completed and Bulgaria will start receiving Azerbaijani gas through it. This will make a great contribution to Bulgaria's energy security", said the head of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan.

Earlier Bulgaria's Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said that the country will be able to fully receive gas from Azerbaijan from 1 July, regardless of the construction of gas pipeline with Greece.

Supplies of Azerbaijani gas to Europe (Italy, Greece and Bulgaria) began on 31 December 2020 through the TAP pipeline. However, due to the absence of the interconnector the volume of Azerbaijani gas supplies to Bulgaria was 4 times less than planned.
