Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili met on Tuesday during his official visit to Tbilisi, Georgia.

During the meeting, Papuashvili welcomed the visit, noted that it was his first official visit to Georgia as President of Armenia, and added that it was especially valuable. "Such high-level visits strengthen the centuries-old friendship between our countries," he said.

Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality, Khachaturyan said, "Armenia highly values and attaches special importance to Armenian-Georgian relations. The centuries-long brotherly relations between the Armenian and Georgian peoples are still based on mutual respect and friendly cooperation between our two countries."

During the meeting the inter-parliamentary cooperation, the organization of periodic meetings of the friendship groups and commissions functioning in the parliaments of two countries were highlighted.

The sides highlighted the necessity of further development and expansion of special good-neighborly relations between Armenia and Georgia.

During the meeting, they also touched upon the issues of regional security and strengthening of stability. It was noted that both Armenia and Georgia are interested in establishing lasting peace, as this is the main and most important guarantee of regional development.

Khachaturyan and Papuashvili underscored that the relations between the two countries based on mutual trust, permanent dialogue and cooperation have always been and will always be at a high level.

At the end of the meeting, the President of the Republic of Armenia made an inscription in the book of honorary guests of the Parliament of Georgia.
