NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will meet with top U.S. officials, nearly two weeks after top Finnish and Swedish leaders met with President Joe Biden about joining the military alliance.

According to a NATO press release, Stoltenberg will meet with Secretary of State Antony Blinken and they will hold a press conference. On Thursday, he will make a joint statement with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

The NATO secretary-general is expected to meet with national security adviser Jake Sullivan.

Earlier this month, Biden met with Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, whose countries have formally applied for NATO membership.

Biden expressed support for both sides joining the military alliance.

Stoltenberg also met with Finnish and Swedish officials earlier this month after the countries submitted their applications. All 30 NATO countries must agree on the membership of both countries in NATO, although Turkey objects to their membership.

Last Friday, Blinken said the U.S. was "confident" that the two countries could join the military alliance.
