The Moldovan authorities began to analyze the pros and cons of participation in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) against the background of its application to the European Union, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu said, Point.md reported.

The head of the Foreign Ministry of Moldova said that so far he sees no legal obstacles for participation in the CIS. However, he says his country has begun work to assess the real impact of participation in this international organization.

"We need a comprehensive analysis of our country's participation in this organization, which, we have to admit, was very affected by the regional situation, the aggression of Russia," he said.

The minister added that it is European integration that remains a priority. At the same time, the preparation of Moldova for the EU membership will require a long time, this process, according to him, may take up to 12 years.
