Iran's accession process to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will not take much time, Russia welcomes this decision, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, RIA Novosti reported.

"A memorandum will be signed in Samarkand in September this year at the next SCO summit, which will clearly set out the legal and temporal framework of this process (Iran's accession to the SCO), it should not take too much time," Lavrov said after talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian. He noted that Russia welcomed the official process of Iran's accession to the SCO as a full-fledged member, which began last year.

"We are convinced that Tehran will make a significant contribution to strengthening the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as one of the key centers of the emerging multipolar world order," the Russian Foreign Minister said.
