The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, commented on the statement of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu that Ankara, at Kiev's request, launched an investigation into Russia's involvement in the theft of Ukrainian grain. Peskov denies these statements, Kommersant reports.

"Russia did not steal any grain," Peskov said during a press conference, responding to a request from journalists to comment on the Turkish diplomat's statement.

Today, Mevlut Cavusoglu said at a meeting with British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss in Ankara that Turkey considers the UN plan for the removal of grain from Ukrainian ports feasible and supports it. The Turkish minister urged to solve the problem of the removal of Ukrainian grain from Ukrainian ports as soon as possible. He also said that if agreements are reached, a monitoring center and a "security zone" will be set up just outside Ukrainian waters. For his part, Truss said that if the grain could not be removed from ports, there would be a threat of a large-scale famine.

In early June, the UN said that it would not be able to verify Ukraine's accusations against Russia of grain theft. The organization's spokesman Stephane Dujarric confirmed that Kiev's information about Russia's possible export of Ukrainian grain had been reported to representatives of the World Food Programme. On the previous day, Russia and Turkey discussed scenarios for the safe exit of Turkish merchant ships from Ukrainian ports and the safe export of grain.
