Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that the Moldovan authorities are ready to pay any political price for the sake of membership in the European Union, she said at today's briefing.

"Our task is to do everything so that citizens can live in peace and stability, in a country that is developing and moving forward. Moldova's place is in the European family," the Moldovan leader said.

Earlier, the speaker of the Moldovan Parliament, Igor Grosu, said that Chisinau was ready to impose new sanctions against Russia, as the republic should be in solidarity with the European Union. So he commented on granting Moldova the status of a candidate for EU membership.

The day before, on 23 June, President of the European Council Charles Michel said that the summit of the European Union has agreed to grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova.

"Agreement. EUCO has just decided EU candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova," Michel wrote on Twitter.
