The US Army has selected a contractor to build a new light tank, and General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) has won the Mobile Protected Firepower (MPF) tender, Defense News reports.

The company must supply 26 tanks with the possibility of ordering another 70 of the same vehicles for a total of $1.14 billion.

8 of the 12 prototypes produced by GDLS for demonstration as part of the tender will be upgraded and transferred to the troops. Deliveries of the first serial MPFs are due to begin in August, with serial production of the tanks scheduled to begin in 2025.
