India will become a developed nation in the next 25 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised during his speech marking the 75th anniversary of India's independence, Interfax reported.

India will be guided by the ideals of self-reliance and the spirit of international partnership to achieve excellence in science and technology, create industry and ensure food and energy security, he said.

Modi urged young people over the next 25 years to devote their lives to the development of the country and to work together for the development of all mankind, this, he said, is India's strength.

The next quarter century, Modi said, should focus on India's development, pride in its heritage, strength in unity and the removal of traces of slavery.
