US-China relations have reached one of the most dangerous moments in history after US lawmakers paid an unannounced visit to Taiwan, Gordon Chang, a senior fellow at the Gatestone Institute and writer, told Fox News.
He agreed with former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger that the US is on the brink of war with Russia and China.
According to Chang, exactly one year ago, China spread propaganda that if Taiwan was invaded, the island would fall within hours and the US would not come to the rescue. The fall of Afghanistan led to the failure of deterrence in Ukraine, where a much more powerful combination of the US, the EU and Britain failed to deter Vladimir Putin. The Chinese believe that the mess in the Western coalition actually means that it is ineffective. Chang thinks the Chinese think they can do whatever they want. This is the point at which they should expect the Chinese to do something. It may not be a full-scale invasion, but it may well be a dangerous maneuvering in the air or at sea that will cause a downward spiral. The president of the United States is not preparing the American people for what is coming, for what the Chinese want, which is war in Asia.
