Poland wants to form a coalition of states that will demand the introduction of a visa ban for Russians at the level of the European Union, the representative of Poland's ruling Law and Justice party, Radosław Fogiel, told PAP.

"We hope that the countries that are blocking this proposal today will change their attitude," he added.

The Czech Republic, which currently holds the EU presidency, announced two weeks ago that a visa ban for all Russian citizens could complement EU sanctions against Moscow. However, Berlin does not agree with this.

The PiS spokesman stressed that Poland is in favor of the strictest visa restrictions possible. "Our position is consistent. "We are in favor of imposing the strictest possible restrictions on visas for Russians at the European level," he said.

"In order for these restrictions to have a tangible effect, they must be imposed at the EU level. So we want to build a coalition of states that will demand this at the EU level," he said.
