The Prosecutor's Office of Yerevan has studied the materials of the criminal proceedings initiated in connection with the deadly explosion at the Surmalu shopping market in Yerevan on August 14.

As a result, the prosecutor made a decision to launch a public criminal proceedings against two persons—and under Armenia’s Criminal Code article on violating the fire safety rules or requirements, which negligently caused the death of a person or other serious consequences.

Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned from the Prosecutor's Office that these decisions were sent to the investigator, and an instruction was given to bring charges against the aforementioned persons and submit a petition to the court to have them remanded in custody.

In addition, it was also found that the facts attest to the presence of sufficient grounds to launch public criminal proceedings against two more persons—and under the Criminal Code article on negligently depriving the lives of two or more persons.

Therefore, the investigator was instructed to launch criminal proceedings also under the aforesaid article of the Criminal Code and to launch criminal proceedings against the guilty persons.

On the same day, criminal proceedings were launched by the investigator, petitions to launch public criminal proceedings against the aforementioned persons were submitted to the prosecutor, and these petitions were granted.

Four people have been detained so far.
