Ericsson on Monday said it would phase out its operations in Russia over the coming months, while Finnish rival Nokia said it also plans to close most of its Russian business by the end of the year, Reuters reported.

While Ericsson suspended its activities in Russia indefinitely in April, Nokia went further and said it would leave the country entirely.

By the end of the year, the vast majority of our employees in Russia will leave Nokia and we will vacate all of our offices, a Nokia spokesman said on Monday.

The company has about 400 employees in Russia and said it would provide financial support to those affected.

Nokia, which has about 2,000 employees in Russia, said its remaining activities in the country involve limited maintenance of critical networks to fulfill contractual and humanitarian obligations.
