The issue is as follows: What to do with the situation we are in today? It must be admitted that the situation is complicated and is getting complicated by the fact that a complicated situation has been created in the world, too; all disagreements have intensified, deepened. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia stated this Thursday during a meeting with the Armenian community in Vladivostok, Russia.

"If we can overcome ourselves—I mean that our mood is not very good for obvious reasons—, but if we can overcome ourselves and can see an opportunity in any crisis and record that it is not possible to stay in place, we must look for opportunities to move forward. I must say that this is exactly the goal of our government. But to move forward, we have to work very seriously, realizing that there are very deep complications. After the 44-day [Artsakh] war [in the fall of 2020], the situation has undergone a certain negative change," he said.

Reflecting on his recent meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Brussels, Pashinyan said:

"During that meeting, we did not manage to record shared positions on the most important issues that concern us. In particular, we are talking about the Nagorno-Karabakh problem. But on the other hand, both of us—Azerbaijan and Armenia—record their desire to achieve peace and record peace.

Absolutely everyone wants peace. I once thought that maybe it should be divided into two parts: countries, politicians who sincerely want peace; and countries and politicians who do not sincerely want peace, they say they want peace as a formality. But now I am becoming convinced that everyone sincerely wants peace and stability. It’s altogether another thing that by saying ‘peace,’ everyone sees their perception, their conditions of peace, their formula, their results, their atmosphere; and this is where conflicts arise."

The Armenian PM recalled that in April he signed a statement with the Russian President, where it is recorded that they need to collaborate toward the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

"That is, the Russian Federation records that there is a problem that needs to be resolved. And this is logical because if there was no problem, the Russian peacekeepers would not be in Nagorno-Karabakh," the Armenian premier added.
