Mossad head David Barnea said that Israel will not participate in the "charade" of renewing the Iran nuclear deal and warned that the new agreement "will not provide Tehran with immunity" from the intelligence agency's operations, the Times of Israel reports.
"The deal is based on Iranian lies. Iran sought to build nuclear weapons that threaten Israel's existence. The deal will easily help them achieve that goal with international legitimization," Barnea said at a conference at Reichman University in Herzliya in his first public appearance since becoming head of the intelligence agency in June 2021.
According to him, "even if the deal is signed, it will not provide immunity from Mossad operations." "We will not participate in this farce. We will not turn a blind eye to the proven truth. The Iranian regime will not have immunity," he warned.
"The Iranian leadership must understand that attacks on Israel or Israelis, directly or indirectly, will be met with a painful response against those responsible on Iranian soil. We will not prosecute the proxies, but those who armed them and gave the orders, and that will happen in Iran," he said.
