YEREVAN. – Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had a telephonic conversation Tuesday morning with Karen Donfried, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs at the US Department of State, Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.
Mirzoyan briefed Donfried on the current situation resulting from the aggression unleashed by the armed forces of Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of Armenia after midnight.
FM Mirzoyan stressed the urgency of a targeted and proper response of the international community to these aggressive and provocative actions of Azerbaijan.
Also, the FM emphasized that the Armenian side will make every effort to repel the Azerbaijani aggression.
Starting from 12:05am on Tuesday, the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces started firing intensively—from artillery and large-caliber firearms—at Armenia’s positions toward Goris, Kapan, Sotk, Jermuk, Artanish, and Ishkhanasar. The adversary is using drones, too. As a result of this large-scale provocation by the Azerbaijani side, an intense shootout has begun. The adversary is attacking both military and civilian objects, and is carrying out positional advance operations in some directions. Positional battles are going on. The Ministry of Defense informs that the Armenian side has casualties and wounded; the data is being verified.
