In terms of attracting the current migration flow from Russia, Armenia competes with other countries and has an advantage compared to Georgia and Azerbaijan, former Head of the Armenian State Migration Service Gagik Yeganyan told NEWS.am.
Unlike Georgia, Armenia had no military conflict with Russia, which evokes negative memories.
Another significant advantage over Georgia, as well as over Azerbaijan, is that Russians in Armenia do not need a work permit, which is due to the EAEU membership.
In the case of citizens from countries outside the EAEU, such a permit is mandatory.
Yeganyan added that Armenia also has competitive advantages over Kazakhstan, where anti-Russian sentiments have intensified.
The more attractive the conditions in Armenia are, the higher will be the temptation to come and settle here.
"For this purpose, we need to think about improving the infrastructure of educational institutions, so that visiting Russians can take their children to Russian kindergartens and schools, we need to think about expanding information support services for such citizens, and creating a hotline.
It is also important to minimize the cases of fraud against such citizens, to be consistent in uncovering such crimes and introduce tough punishment," advised the former head of the Migration Service of Armenia.
The serious flow of Russian citizens to Armenia started at the end of February 2022 when the conflict with Ukraine was launched. The flow has increased after the announcement of partial military mobilization in Russia.
