Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, who is in Geneva on a working visit, met with EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar on October 2, Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.

Ararat Mirzoyan underscored the need to eliminate the consequences of Azerbaijan's recent aggression against the Republic of Armenia, the withdrawal of Azerbaijani armed forces from the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia, the immediate release of Armenian prisoners of war illegally held in Azerbaijan and the maintenance of the ceasefire.

Minister Mirzoyan strongly condemned the gross violations of international law and war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani armed forces, in particular deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, inhuman torture and extrajudicial executions of Armenian prisoners of war, and stressed that those responsible must bear adequate responsibility, including through sanctions.

During the meeting the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem were discussed.
