The European Union (EU) has banned imports of primary polymers and products made of them from Russia for a total of $1 billion, RBC wrote, citing documents in the EU magazine.

Next year EU as part of the eighth package of sanctions against Russia banned import of primary polymers and products made of them (plastics): plates, sheets, films, tapes, pipes, hoses, etc., said the EU magazine.

According to UN Comtrade, Russia shipped $948 million worth of plastic products to Europe last year, with polymers ranking first at $327 million and plastic plates, sheets, film and bands coming second at $109 million. However, in 2022 the supplies have decreased, and under the new sanctions package the supplies will stop after January 8, 2023.
