European foreign ministers will discuss the transfer of Iranian drones to Russia on October 17 and may come to a political agreement on future sanctions related to such activities, Reuters reported, citing diplomats.

The diplomats, referring to preparatory meetings before Monday's ministerial meeting in Luxembourg, said there had been an analysis of drone activity, and the topic is on the agenda.

Diplomats said that while an agreement on new sanctions lists was not possible Monday, a political agreement could be reached that would pave the way for sanctions at a later stage.

The EU is already set to impose a travel ban and asset freeze on Monday on about 15 Iranians it links to protests in Iran.

France and Germany have made clear that they consider new sanctions on drones used by Russia also necessary, and the transfer of drones should be seen as a violation of a UN Security Council resolution.
