A court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan granted the petition by the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia to have attorney Erik Aleksanyan remanded in custody.

On Monday, the NSS officers has apprehended Aleksanyan from a Yerevan court.

The lawyer, who is a defense attorney in high-profile criminal cases, is accused of assisting an official in the abuse of power.

Judge Arusyak Aleksanyan also is a defendant in this criminal proceeding, and she also has been arrested.
