The Swedish authorities are going to transfer more modern and heavier weapons to Ukraine, the new Swedish Defence Minister Paul Johansson has said, Dagens Nyheter reported. According to him, in particular, this applies to air defense systems.

Johansson noted he was ready for the transfer of more modern weapons to Kiev. His first bilateral meeting was with Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov. For example, Ukraine needs more advanced air defense systems, he said.

As the Swedish defense minister pointed out, the new Swedish leadership is not going to give up its support for Ukraine, including military support. At the same time, Johansson never clarified what kind of weapons Kiev may receive, only admitting the transfer of the RBS 70 surface-to-air missile system.

Johansson said they would report on new weapons deliveries to Ukraine as soon as possible. When Russia escalates its hostilities, it is important that they respond and also provide heavier and more advanced weapons systems to Ukraine, he noted.
