The death toll from the collapse of a cable-stayed bridge in the western Indian state of Gujarat has risen to 141, with 177 people rescued. The search for missing persons continues, NDTV reported Monday.

Earlier, local authorities reported 130 deaths. According to rescuers, the number of victims of the disaster may still increase.

The cable-stayed bridge on the Machhu River in Gujarat's Morbi district collapsed Sunday evening. A total of about 500 people were on the bridge at the time.

The rescue operation did not stop all night, with rescue efforts intensifying as dawn broke. Five National Disaster Response Force teams were on site, joined by military rescuers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Officials say about 20 people are hospitalized with serious injuries. An isolation ward has been set up at a local hospital to treat those injured in the bridge collapse.
