Finland and Sweden will not demand any preconditions before joining NATO or object to the placement of nuclear bases or weapons on their territories. This was confirmed by their prime ministers at a joint press conference in Helsinki, Bloomberg reported.

Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin, a Social Democrat, said her country should not impose any preconditions or close any doors before joining NATO.

Conservative Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson agreed with his Finnish counterpart. Finland and Sweden should draw similar conclusions and accept all NATO capabilities, he said.

Swedish Armed Forces chief Micael Bydén, in a separate press conference Tuesday, reiterated that Sweden should initially refrain from any reservations about cooperation on nuclear weapons. Drawing red lines before we are even a member only creates obstacles and friction, he said.

The two Scandinavian countries are currently awaiting ratification of their NATO membership application by Turkey and Hungary. All other NATO countries have approved membership on an expedited basis.

Hungary is expected to ratify Finland and Sweden's NATO membership in mid-December.
