During the session in Dushanbe, the Council of Commanders of the Border Guard Troops of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member countries discussed the situation at the external borders of the CIS, RIA Novosti reports, citing to the press service of the Main Department of the Border Guard Troops of Tajikistan.

"As part of the Council's further work, the situation at the external borders of the CIS member states and its development trends were analyzed, the results of special border operations to prevent illegal activities across the external borders of the CIS in the northwestern, western and Central Asian directions, as well as the matters related to their implementation in 2023 were discussed," the respective statement reads.

During the session, it was noted that counteraction to modern challenges and threats requires concentration and increase of efforts in all domains.

The participants also discussed the implementation of the program aimed at strengthening border security at the external borders in 2021-2025 and the implementation of the provisions of the interstate plan to combat cross-border crime, reflected on matters related to the improvement of information cooperation of the CIS border agencies, as well as scientific research and educational activities, and training of personnel.

To note, Armenia also is a member in the Commonwealth of Independent States.
