Russia calls on Armenia and Azerbaijan to refrain from steps that could destabilize the situation between the two countries, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, RIA Novosti reported.
"We continue to call on both countries to refrain from any actions and steps that could lead to increased tension," Peskov said, responding to a question about how the Kremlin reacted to the news of the renewed exchange of fire between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Earlier, the Armenian Defense Ministry accused the Azerbaijani Armed Forces of shelling Armenian positions on the border on Monday night.
