YEREVAN. – Deputy Minister of Justice Armenuhi Harutyunyan of Armenia co-chaired the 12th session—in Brussels—of the Armenia-European Union (EU) Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security, the Ministry of Justice of Armenia informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

At the opening of the session, the deputy justice minister presented the consequences of the military attack by Azerbaijan on the sovereign territory of Armenia on September 13-14, the targeting of the civilian population, the cases of particularly cruel treatment and torture of Armenian servicemen, and the extrajudicial execution of Armenian prisoners of war.

Also, Harutyunyan noted that the Armenian side lauds the sessions of the Armenia-EU Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security that are held alternately in Yerevan and Brussels every year. The said subcommittee is the best platform to present to the EU a number of ongoing reforms in Armenia.

The deputy minister emphasized that the meetings of this subcommittee further strengthen and deepen the existing close cooperation between Armenia and the EU. In her address, Harutyunyan reflected, in particular, on the process of judicial and legal reforms being carried out by the Ministry of Justice of Armenia.

The EU partners, in turn, welcomed Armenia’s reforms in the justice sector, and expressed readiness to support their continuation.

On Monday, Harutyunyan participated also in the session of the Armenia-EU Human Rights Dialogue.
