A Tax Free system for foreign tourists has been launched in Egypt, reports АТОР.

Currently, the VAT can be refunded only at one Egyptian airport—in Sharm El Sheikh.

Travelers will receive VAT on their purchases if their stay in the country does not exceed three months and the amount of their spending is at least 1,500 Egyptian pounds.

Either the respective sign shall be posted at the entrance or the statement on the cash register will inform about the operation of this system in stores in Egypt.

In order to receive the VAT, you need to present your passport, the receipts, and the purchased items at the airport.

The chance to have the VAT refunded on purchases officially existed in Egypt before, but because of its complicated scheme, foreigners virtually did not make use of it.
